Elvis inizia a lavorare alla Crown Electric, a $ 1 all’ora. Il suo primo compito è guidare il camion per fare le consegne ai clienti. Il suo obiettivo è diventare elettricista. Il Las Vegas Desert News And Telegram pubblica un articolo dal titolo “Elvis aiuta il successo del film di Burton-O’ Toole”.
Il contenuto dell’articolo è incentrato su un’intervista rilasciata da Hal Wallis in cui dichiara che i profitti ottenuti dai film di Elvis Presley gli permettono di finanziare film di classe come il Becket di Richard Burton e Peter O’Toole. “Per fare film di classe” dichiara Wallis “è necessario fare film commerciali e di successo, come quelli di Presley. Ma questo non significa che anche un film di Presley non possa essere di qualità”. Verso gli ultimi anni di vita, in privato Elvis ha manifetstato notevole sofferenza e dispiacere per queste osservazioni


Intanto a New York viene proiettata la prima del film Viva Las Vegas

Non tanto perché il Colonnello ha fatto capire che per tutto l’anno Elvis potrebbe essere impegnato con il cinema, quanto per un suo esplicito accenno alla possibilità che, entro un anno o due, l’artista potrebbe essere l’ attrazione principale del nuovo hotel di Kirk Kerkorian l’MGM Grand, (al momento ancora in costruzione), l’Hilton accetta di pagare Elvis $ 1.300 alla settimana per i prossimi due ingaggi e $ 150.000 per i tre ingaggi successivi.
Inoltre per i prossimi tre anni, l’Hilton pagherà al Colonnello Parker $ 50.000 all’anno, per le sue consulenze

“Non mungere la mucca nei giorni di pioggia” dice Elvis alla fine dello show. Se arriva un fulmine, potresti rimanerci secco” Harry Kalcheim è infastidito. Questi due show segnano la fine del tour di due settimane, dove Elvis ha guadagnato in totale per i 23 shows che ha fatto $ 521.639, 84.

In questa domenica di Pasqua, Elvis e Yvonne Lime vanno in chiesa insieme e per Elvis è la prima volta dopo tanto tempo. Dopo la “messa”, rivolgendosi al Pastore Reverendo Hamill “Sono l’uomo più infelice che lei abbia mai visto. Ho più soldi di quanti possa spendere. Oggi, il Memphis Press-Scimitar pubblica una foto che mostra Joe Esposito, il Dr, Nick e Mike McMahon alla cerimonia del primo scavo al Medenhall and Mt Moriah di Memphis, il primo di due campi da raquetball che dovranno essere costruiti in quello che diventerà il Presley Center Courts, Inc.
Secondo quanto dice l’articolo il primo campo di raquetball dovrebbe aprire in settembre.
Questa è la prima iniziativa d’affari di Elvis, al di fuori del mondo dello spettacolo.
Il terreno per il Presley Center Courts Racquet Ball Club è stato acquistato a Memphis, Tennessee, con l’obiettivo di aprilo anche a Nashville e in altre città degli Stati Uniti.

Una ditta di Memphis fa la consegna a Graceland del nuovo cancello in ferro, dove sono raffigurate delle note musicali, fabbricato dal Veterans Ornamental Iron Works di Phoenix, Arizona.
Il cancello è costato $ 1.300 a cui va aggiunta un’ulteriore spesa di $ 1.752 per il montaggio e l’ installazione di un impianto elettrico di apertura e chiusura automatica

Continuano le prove, mentre Elvis passa le sue serate al Cowboy dove incontra Lance LeGault, un cantante bianco di rythm ‘n Blues della Lousiana e amico di Red West. Nell’arco di pochi giorni Elvis viene presentato a Sandy Ferra, la figlia 14enne del proprietario del club Crossbow, a cui Elvis da appuntamento quasi subito. Anni dopo Sandy Ferra sposerà il DJ di Memphis Wink Martindale

Dopo aver completato i due eventi per la ricerca di fondi, il Colonnello scrive al neo eletto Vice Presidente Lyndon Johnson, dando la sua disponibilità e quella di Elvis per altri eventi patriottici futuri, dicendo “se questo significa usare il nostro talento o aiutare a caricare i camion”.

Elvis ianugura il suo impegno di due settimane davanti ad un pubblico annoiato e vecchio.
Tre anni dopo Elvis racconterà che “Dopo il primo show, sono uscito e ho camminato nel buio. Stavo malissimo…….. non ce la facevo a passare dove c’era gente”. Nonostante questo si innamora di Las Vegas ed è eccitato di poter vedere ed incontrare alcuni dei suoi miti tra cui Johnny Ray, un cantante melodico al quale lui stesso viene paragonato sovente. Incontra anche Liberace che è il cantante preferito di sua madre, ma che ha influenzato anche lui.
A Las Vegas, Elvis ha anche la possibilità di assistere ad alcuni altri spettacoli, tra cui quello di Freddie Bell and The Bellboys e rimane impressionato dell’ innovativa performance della nuova hit “Hound Dog”

Elvis si esibisce a M-B Corral Wichita Falls e alla Texas High School, Seymour, Texas, dando inizio ad un tour di cinque giorni con artisti della TNT Records.

L’etichetta che sponsorizza la manifestazione è la M-B Corral, di San Antonio, il cui manifesto riporta “Elvis 'That's All Right Mama' Prestley".
La locandina indica che oltre a Chuck Lee e Gene Kay c’è anche l’artista della Capitol Dub Dickerson ("Mama Laid the Law Down, Boy").
Ogni artista, non appena termina la sua performance, parte per Seymour, Texas, ad un’ora di strada dove c’è un altro spettacolo da fare.
Elvis arriva a Seymour, Texas, solo dopo mezzanotte, perché è rimasto senza benzina (e soldi).

Doug Dixon, uno grande fan di Elvis che è rimasto fino alla fine, ricorda che quando finalmente Elvis sale sul palco di Seymour, "indossa un soprabito sportivo rosso, calzoni blu, camicia bianca, di almeno due misure più grandi, che gli avrebbero permesso di fare le sue mosse senza strappare qualcosa.
Elvis era lì immobile, con le palpebre semichiuse e non diceva una parola. A quel punto, Scotty gli si avvicina da dietro, cercando di dargli carica (come fossero un giocattolo da ricaricare) e così subito dopo Elvis afferra la sua chitarra e ha inizio lo show”

Elvis sale sul treno diretto a Los Angeles. Insieme al gruppo che lo accompagna c’è anche Freddie Bienstock che, lungo il tragitto, fa ascoltare ad Elvis le demo delle canzoni che la Hill and Range gli ha commissionato per il prossimo film

Dopo gli accordi presi tra la RCA e i musicisti, le registrazioni della colonna sonora del film G.I. Blues, si spostano nello studio della RCA, al 6363 Sunset Boulevard.
Elvis arriva in studio alle 9 del mattino, indossando il vestito di scena e lavora fino alle 20.00.
La band è integrata dal chitarrista “Tiny” Timbrell e dal pianista Dudley Brooks, che già avevano suonato con lui nella precedente session a Los Angeles.
Parecchie canzoni di Jerry Lieber e Mike Stoller sono state tenute da parte, per motivi economici (i due autori hanno rifiutato di sottostare alle condizioni onerose, a cui sono assoggettati tutti gli scrittori di canzoni) ed Elvis è notevolmente infastidito per il materiale che gli è stato dato.
Vengono registrate le seguenti canzoni “Shoppin’ Around” “Didja Ever” “Doing The Best I Can” “G.I. Blues” “Frankfort Special” “Tonight is So Right for Love”
