L’artista, primo in classifica per la musica country Eddy Arnold, lascia il suo manager il Colonnello Tom Parker. Essendo il suo unico cliente, la lettera di Arnold arriva a Parker come un fulmine a ciel sereno e lo lascia sconvolto e senza lavoro.
Comunque, in base a quello che è un accordo amichevole tra loro, a Parker rimane ancora spazio su qualche ingaggio.

Elvis fa la sua prima esibizione fuori dal Tennessee a Gladewater, TX

Alle volte, durante l’estate, Elvis si faceva vedere Mount Pleasant, Texas, all’American Legion Hall e lo faceva principalmente in questo giorno o una settimana più tardi.

Elvis acquista due leoni in pietra da una casa di Memphis, al 160 Chery Road e li fa posizionare ai lati degli scalini d’entrata di Graceland

Il prossimo film di Elvis si chiamerà “Tickle Me” e sarà prodotto da Ben Schwalb per la Allied Artits e diretto da Norman Taurog.
Elvis riceverà $ 750.000 che equivale a più di metà del budget di spesa per il film, oltre al 50% dei profitti. Poiché la Allied si trova in difficoltà finanziarie, onde evitare di informare sull’aumento dei costi per portare Elvis in studio di registrazione, il Colonnello architetta un nuovo schema per la colonna sonora. Pertanto, oggi, scrive una lettera ad Elvis in cui dice “Per questo film l’idea è di usare 10/12 canzoni che hai già registrato precedentemente e che sono già state pubblicate su album o su singoli 45rpm”. La bellezza di questo schema, spiega il Colonnello, è che così possono salvare sia tempo che denaro. L’unica cosa che deve fare Elvis è di dare il suo assenso, nel più breve tempo possibile. Elvis risponde un mese dopo, scrivendo molto brevemente solo ”Adattamento con dischi, okay. Elvis”

Al mattino Elvis completa il doppiaggio di Speedway e dopo aver pranzato, fa le prove di trucco per il prossimo film "Stay Away, Joe".
