Le ragazze iniziarono ad urlare e Luman, sentì freddi brividi scorrergli lungo la schiena, perché capì che in quel momento si stava definendo il corso della sua vita.

Il tour termina con un’esibizione priva di inibizioni ed Elvis che viene premiato con le chiavi della città.

Elvis fa tre giorni di prove nello studio della RCA in Sunset Boulevard, iniziando oggi alle ore 19.00 fino all’1.20 e continuando nelle due notti successive dalle 21.00 fino a mezzanotte

Elvis passa la giornata a Graceland. Alle 4 del pomeriggio, chiama Billy Smith, chiedendogli di salire a casa.
Elvis è di ottimo umore, ride e scherza .

Davanti a Billy, prova la sua nuova jumpsuit che dovrà indossare nel nuovo tour, ma quando si accorge che non gli va bene, inizialmente rimprovera il sarto, ma poi guardfa Billy e dice “Dannazione sono talmente grasso.....”.

Più tardi Elvis, Ginger, Billy, Jo e Al Strada prendono una motocicletta e girano sulle strade che circondano a Graceland e questa sarà l’ultimo giro in moto di Elvis

Elvis partecipa ad un meeting, a Memphis con il Colonnello, Bob Neal e Vernon Presley, durante il quale viene firmato un nuovo contratto, con il quale il Colonnello Parker viene nominato “special advisor”, termine che gli attribuisce il controllo su ogni aspetto dell’operazione.
Nel frattempo, A.V. Bamford, amico del Colonnello, nonchè agente di distribuzione, rimane perplesso sul futuro di Elvis, e in una lettera al Colonnello definisce Elvis “più che un fuoco d’artificio. Elvis è un ferro rovente piuttosto”, ammettendo però che questo vale solo per alcune zone. Bamford aggiunge che comunque terrà in considerazione di procurare ingaggi per Elvis, in nuovi territori, solo se potrà compensare quelle prenotazioni con altre, in città “obbligate”. Tra le altre cose, l’agente comunica che KXLA, è l’unico paese ad ovest di Los Angeles, che, non manda mai in onda Presley

Elvis chiede a Steve Sholes di assumere, per la sua prossima session, Millie Kirkham, che lavora spesso con i Jordanaires. Infatti Elvis ha avuto modo di apprezzare il suo lavoro su “Gone” di Ferlin Huskey, ma in particolare sull’ultimo singolo di Jummy “C” Newmann

E’ arrivata anche Dixie Locke, a cui Elvis confida che vorrebbe lasciar perdere tutto, ma non può, perché come dichiara “C’è troppa gente che dipende da me e mi diventa difficile farlo.”

Alle 15.30 a Graceland, si svolgono i funerali di Gladys e poi viene seppellita al Forrest Hills Cemetary di Memphis. Elvis e Vernon sono disperati e più volte stanno quasi per svenire.
Il programma era che i Blackwood Brothers eseguissero tre o quattro canzoni, ma Elvis non vuole farli smettere, tanto che per essere presenti al tour che devono fare, sono costretti a noleggiare un aereo.

In cimitero, Elvis si appoggia sulla tomba di sua madre e piangendo in modo inconsolabile dice “Arrivederci cara, arrivederci! Ti amo tanto! Tu sai quanto io abbia vissuto tutta la mia vita solo per te!”
Il Colonnello ha organizzato tutto per il funerale, che viene a costare $ 20.479,85.

Nonostante il Colonnello abbia fatto di tutto per prevenirlo, i costi di “Viva Las Vegas” superano il budget di parecchio, minacciando una perdita dei profitti (perdita che ormai c’è in tutti i film di Elvis).
Alla luce di questo il Colonnello porta a termine una trattativa con un altro produttore della MGM, Sam Katzman, che in teoria promette alti profitti, tagliando le spese e la durata delle riprese, oltre che un serrato controllo dei costi.
Katzman che, nel 1956 con $ 300.000 ha prodotto il film “Rock Around The Clock”, è soprannominato il “Re dei cortometraggi”
