Liberato dall’impegno di “Speedway”, Elvis è impegnato con due notti di registrazioni per nello Studio A della RCA sul Sunset Boulevard, su canzoni che non hanno niente a che vedere con le colonne sonore.
La decisione, presa a giugno, è di non registrare a Nashville, ma a Los Angeles con “musicisti più sofisticati”. Nonostante il produttore rimanga Felton Jarvis, è Bill Strange, (veterano chitarrista e allievo nelle numerose session di Elvis per le colonne sonore, nonché uno dei principali architetti del recente successo di Nancy Sinatra) che farà da arrangiatore e imprenditore di questa session.
All’ultimo minuto, i programmi vengono cambiati radicalmente, quando, accidentalmente, Richard Davis sbanda con la macchina e uccide un giardiniere, fermo all’angolo della strada, mentre sta cercando di vedere la casa di Elvis a Bel Air.
Per paura di una cattiva pubblicità, il Colonnello spedisce Elvis e Priscilla a Las Vegas, insieme a Joe, Charlie, Billy e Gee Gee.

Nonostante gli studi spirituali di Elvis, le abitudini del gruppo non cambiano e sia il luna park che il cinema, vengono affittati quasi ogni sera. In una di queste sere Elvis guarda il film “Il Dott. Stranamore” con Peter Sellers, che rimarrà sempre uno dei suoi attori preferiti. Elvis guarda il film ben 5 volte.
